Update: Click HERE to watch a new video tutorial on adding a custom title to your header & How to CENTER your header too!Recently, a number of people have been asking me how they can add a title to the blog headers that I provide here. So I have decided to start a series of Super Easy Tips to help you beautify your blog!! The Tutorial for the first tip "Add a Title to Your Header with Blogger's tools" is below. You can enlarge any of the photos by clicking on them.

Step 1: Begin by going into your dashboard and click on "Edit" in the "Header box". (You can see it above in the pink circle.) This will cause a box to pop up.
Step 2: Once inside of the pop up box. Type in your blog title (you can also type in a blog description, although it can look cluttered, so I'm leaving it out here.). Next, select the option for "Behind Title and Description" and open up your image. Then click save.
Step 3: Scroll down inside of the box, in the upper left hand corner, and select "Blog Title Font". Next to the right of that, select which type of font you want. (There are not many choices here unfortunately, only 6 to choose from. ) Optional, you can also select "Bold" or "Italic" if desired.

Step 4: Adjust the size of your font. Click on "Smaller" to make it smaller or "Larger" to make it bigger. The more you click the more the size will change, you can make it super tiny or super large. It's up to you!

Step 4: You can also change the color if you like. Just go back into the scroll box and scroll up to where it says "Blog Title Color" and select it. The palette box will pop up. Click on any color you like to change the color. Or if you know the number of the color you could type it in. Once you have finished adjusting your blog, don't forget to click on "Save Changes" in the orange box, and then you can view your finished changes!

This is not a perfect method, as you are very limited as far as type placement and font choice. But it is the easiest way and does not involve any additional software, since the tool is build right into blogger already. In a future tutorial I will go over adding a custom title to your header using an editing program. I hope you find this tutorial helpful!!

ReplyDeleteI don't have the font tab either...PLEASE HELP!! I can't move forward
ReplyDeleteHi Stephanie & Rachel,
ReplyDeleteThis tutorial was made before Blogger switched to the new Template Designer. If you have a new blog or switched to the New Template Designer themes, then just click the "template designer" button, and then click the "advanced" button and you will see the font selections there. I hope this helps!
I still cant get my title centered! what do i do?
ReplyDeleteKatelin,
ReplyDeleteBlogger changed things since I made this tutorial, this tutorial works for the older "Minima Templates". If you have a new blog, or if you switched from the old templates to Blogger's new templates, then you will need to watch the video called "Adding a Title to your Blog Header". It's in my super simple tips section, and shows how to center your header, in addition to adding a title. I hope this helps!
Thank you for this Tutorial, I was able to change my Header with your lovely freebie of the elf girl and it looks great. I will post a link to your blog on mine,

hi karen! i love your site! you're so generous! i just added the linen background and linen header to my blog but i am having the following problems:
ReplyDelete1. the lined background starts 1/4 of the way down my blog. is there a way to move it to the top?
2. i am having difficulty centering the header and getting my text to fit inside. i attempted to follow your directions but it seemed that the menu options that blogger gave me were different from what the directions said.
if you can help that would be super! if not i will keep playing around. thanks again!

Hi Abby,
ReplyDeleteJust click on the link on this post, for the video that shows you how to center, and a title to, your header.
The reason the background isn't displaying properly, is that you are using the wrong template. If you reread step one, you will see the names of the templates that work with my backgrounds.
Happy Blogging!
Thanks for all the helpful info and WONDERFUL graphics!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the tutorial. I used your background templates and header.I'm new on this blog adventure and I have a lot of things to learn. Your tutorial really helps! I have posted your button and linked it back to your blog. Thanks again. ~Have a wonderful day~
