This is a another version of a similar background that I made previously. I've had a number of requests for Backgrounds with Black in the center, so I came up with this Magenta and Black theme. Just like the original, I made this one using an old Rose print and a French soap label. I distressed it and gave it some grunge to give it a time worn look.

Build Your Own Background - Gray Wood - Plain

This is another one for my new series called "Build Your Own Background"! The background shown above is one that I made using a photo of an old wooden door, and then I played with it in Photoshop until I got the image above. It's perfectly fine to use the way it is, but I know a lot of my readers are very creative and want to customize and make your own backgrounds. I've included two options, one with a center white panel and one without for you to play with. You can start with one of the backgrounds as a base, and you can add elements to it and jazz it up a bit! You can use Photoshop Elements to add the elements. Super Simple Blog Tip - Add a Title to your Header with Picnik

Some time ago I promised that I would do a tutorial that would help you to add text to your blog header, in a way that gives you much more control over the size of the text, color, position, font etc. So here it is! Today I'm using a program called Picnic, it's super easy to use, it's free, and you can use it online, so there's nothing to download! Honestly it's so easy you probably don't need a tutorial, but I made one anyway, just in case you get stuck, or need a little extra help along the way. I know it looks like a lot of steps, but really there's not much to them, I just broke it down a lot to illustrate each step completely.

Step 1: Grab a header from my site (save it to your computer) and then, Go to the Picnik website. And click on "Get Started Now".

Step 2: After the page loads, click on "Upload a Photo."

Step 3: A box will pop up with your folders, select the header image that you previously saved to your computer, by clicking on it, and then click "Open".

Step 4: You should see your header now. Click on "Create", at the top of the screen.

Step 5: Now click on "Text" in the left top corner.

Step 6: Notice the font selection along the right side. Cute Huh?!

Step 7: (Okay there are 3 steps within step 7 actually, notice they are numbered) First click on the font style that you like, to select it. Then type your blog name, into the box in the upper left corner. And finally click "Add". The title is now in the box, but because the letters are white, you can't see it. Don't panic, it's there!

Tip: If you want your blog name to be on several lines, then type the words underneath each other like I did here. I actually have the whole name in the box, 3 words total (Blog Sweet Blog), each word is on a separate line, but one of the words is hidden here. To do this I typed "Blog" and then hit my enter key, and then "Sweet" then hit enter again, and then "Blog" and enter again. Whew! I hope that makes sense!

Step 8: Change the font color, by moving the tiny circle in the color box around, until you hit on a color that you like.

Step 9: You can change the font size by moving the "size" slider around, or by pulling on the corners of the box around your title. You can reposition the title, by clicking on your title and moving it around with your mouse.

Step 10: You can align your text, left, center, or right, by clicking on the align button, if you look closely you'll see I put a black circle around the align button. It's tiny! I centered mine.

Step 11: Click on the tiny button with the tiny green flower, in the top right corner. A little box will drop down, click on "Combine Everything".

Step 12: Click on "Save and Share".

Step 13: Click on "Save Photo".

Step 14: Click "Save". You're done!! Now you can add it to your Blog!!

And pair it up with a cute background too, if you like!

I hope you have fun with Picnik, it's a pretty cool program, and there's a lot of fun stuff you can do with it, so play around while you're there!

This new background was made from an antique wooden barn door that I photographed. The door had beautiful weathered wood with bits of white paint clinging to it. Super Simple Blog Tip - Blogger's NEW New Method for Adding a Custom Background

Well Blogger has come up with yet another way to add a custom background to our blogs. The good news is, this time it's really easy, and there's NO CODE involved! Yay!!

(You can click on any of the images to see them larger)

Step 1: The first thing really is that you will need to make sure you already have a background saved to your computer, since you will be uploading it later. You can use any of the ones that I've made from HERE, or you could use your own if you have one.

Step 2: Go into your Dashboard and click on "Template Designer" as shown above.

Step 3: Select "Picture Window". You will notice there are 3 options for "Picture Window", use the first one, next to the arrow, is the best option (with the blue sky). Select it by clicking on it.

Step 4: Click on "Background" and you will see a screen like the one above. Then click on the tiny white arrow next to the box labeled "Background Image". You will then see a pop up box like the one in the image below.

Step 5: In the pop up box select "Upload Image".

Step 6: Next click on "Browse" and find the background image that you have saved on your computer, and select it. Then click "Done".

Step 7 - Make sure you deselect the box marked "Scroll with Page". (If you don't do this, your background won't fill the whole page, and it will look yucky!). Then click on "Apply to Blog".
Yay! Your done!!

I'm so excited about this new way to add a custom background on Blogger! The background will load faster and you will be able to take advantage of all the great new features on Blogger's New Template Designer, like customizing your columns and footers etc. So much fun!

Going forward I will no longer be making Minima Backgrounds, since there is no longer a need to do so.

Please Note: For those of you that paid for a custom background from a Web Designer, make sure you back up your blog and design first, as you will loose the design (if not saved to your computer) when you switch to the New Template Designer. I would also highly recommend that you discuss making this change with your Web Designer before changing to the new templates.

This is another one of my designs that I have updated, to go with Blogger's New Template Designer, for those of you that have switched to the new templates. This one is the Black and Gray French Doodads Background. You can use this with the 2 or 3 column templates that are offered with the designer.

I'm so excited to share this awesome video with you today!!! This video tutorial was created by Kayla Lamoreaux from Digitalscrapper.com Kayla teaches Photoshop classes and Blogging classes too, so she is quite the expert at this stuff! The video is very well done and shows you step by step how to add your own title to your header, (with the font of your choice, yay!) using Photoshop Elements. And how to add it to your blog and Center it too!
You will see in the video, that a scrap of code is required to center your header.

Blog Background - Turquoise Ornamental - For Minima

I've been taking some classes in Photoshop recently and I'm proud to be able to offer this background, which is the first one that I have ever made in Photoshop! Yay!! I can see that I'm going to be able to design even more exciting backgrounds with this software, there are just so many more possibilities. Anyway, this background is a lovely bright turquoise theme, with delicate white scrolly doodads. It works quite nicely with the Header that I added a couple of days ago.

Back To Basics - Getting Back to the Minima Template

Many of you have probably noticed the new "Design" button on Blogger. Some people have tried out the new templates and accidentally clicked on "Apply to Blog", with out meaning to. When you do this, one of the new templates is applied and you can not go back to Minima from this screen. If you would like to go back to Minima again, in order to use the Backgrounds from this site, or one of the other free background sites out there. Here's a step by step tutorial showing you how. Unfortunately if you did apply one of the new templates you will have lost any Html customizations that you may have done or paid to have done, like adding a third column and these will need to be redone again.

Step 1) Here you see (above) we are in the new Blogger Template Designer. Click on "Back
to Blogger".

Step 2)Next click on "Edit HTML". Don't worry, we are not going to touch the HTML!!

Step 3) Now were are in the HTML screen. Scroll past the Html to the bottom of the page.

Step 4) Click on "Select Layout Template".

Step 5) Select the Minima template. And click on "Save Template".

Step 6) Now you have reverted back to the old Blogger and you can add your backgrounds again, the way you normally would.

Keep in mind, if you did not change to the new templates you don't have to do any of this, you can still change out the backgrounds the same way that you always have!

Over the next few weeks I will be working on figuring out how to get my backgrounds to work with the new Designer, for those that want to use it and all of its features. I have it mostly figured out now, but I have one small detail to work out yet.

Blogger's New Template Designer

Well, you may have noticed that Blogger has changed things up a bit! Instead of the customize button, there is now a "Design" button. And there is no more Minima template! Yikes! Anyway, it looks like you will still be able to use custom backgrounds, like the ones that I offer here, however I will need to work on changing the code, the instructions, and possibly the template itself to work with the new Template Designer. It also looks like the 3 column templates are going to fit the best going forward for either 2 or 3 column blogs. The good news is, it will be easier for you to make your own 3 column blog! Stay tuned, I will report back once I have a few more things figured out!

Update: Minima is still there, it's just a bit hidden! Yay! More on this soon, it's sooo late I can barely think anymore!

Quick Tip: Here's a quick tip for those of you that are trying to find the Dashboard button. To get to the Dashboard click on "new post" then click "dashboard" . You can even save your Dashboard to your favorites/bookmarks folder if you like, and then go in that way, that's what I did.

Super Simple Tip #3- Change the Color of your Navigation Bar

So, you've created a new blog and you've added a gorgeous background and a wonderful header. But there's one thing marring the beauty of the fabulous new look of your blog.
What is it? It's that ugly masculine blue Navigation Bar at the top of your Blogger blog. There's something about this color blue that seems to clash with most of the pretty backgrounds that a lot of us Mom's and women use on our blogs. So today I will show you how to easily fix that!!

You can see by the photo above what I am talking about. Yep, the blue clashes! I don't think a lot of people realize that you can change it.

Step 1: Open up your blogger layout screen.
Step 2: Look for the Blue Navbar and click on "edit" as shown above.

Step 3: You should now be seeing a screen like the one above. You can select the option that most matches your background. Options include tan, black, silver, or my new favorites transparent light or transparent dark. For this tutorial I selected transparent light.

Step 4: Click "Save".

Woohoo! That's it! Seeeee I told you it was easy! And look at the difference, it's still there, but it blends in so much nicer. I hope you will find this tip helpful.
