How to care for medium-porous hair?

One of the first and most important rules – do no harm. The second? Try to fix as much as possible. Medium-porous hair requires special care, which is why it’s so important to tailor care to the needs of even the most demanding hair.  Determining what medium porosity hair needs is so problematic because it can draw a little bit from both sides of the scales.

Medium-porosity hair is not a judgment. On the contrary, quite a few women are happy to have this kind of hair because it’s closer to low-porosity already. They are not as fickle as severely damaged hair. They are much easier to work with and visibly healthier. Of course, it’s not perfect, but even low porosity hair has its drawbacks. It’s better to have medium porosity hair than the most weakened and difficult to recover hair.

To expand on this theme, here are the two most important principles that people with medium porous hair should follow when caring for their hair on a daily basis.

The right protection

By nature, medium-porous hair is sensitized. What does this actually mean? The hair cuticles do not cling tightly to the hair shaft and are therefore only one step away from compromising the hair’s condition and overall health. As experts point out, it’s much easier to transition to high-porosity hair, but it’s much harder to transition to low-porosity hair. That’s why the first rule of thumb is to protect your hair from harmful external influences. Women who have medium porosity hair should not harm it.

For example, excessive use of heavy styling products, frequent blow-drying/straightening/curling/dyeing, not using any conditioners or hair masks, not protecting your hair from the sun or the cold can all cause hair deterioration. It’s all worth changing and making sure your hair is properly moisturized. Non-penetrating hair oils work great here. They coat the hair with a thin protective film and prevent further damage and the loss of valuable water and trace elements.

Hair with medium porosity by nature has angled hair cuticles, which in practice should be closed. We must therefore do everything in our hair care to keep them closed. Closed scales mean low porosity hair, or in short, healthy, shiny hair. But no one is saying that medium-porous hair cannot be healthy! Proper care keeps medium-rough hair in top condition.
